Campaign Principles

Lifelong learning

Championing the college to provide a diverse range of educational pathways that serve West Michigan residents at every age. The college should cultivate a local culture of constant discovery, supporting neighbors from youth to retirement.

Personal Growth

The college should provide opportunities for our community to discover and pursue personal growth, offering many paths for people to learn, reflect, and thrive at every stage of life.

Economic Empowerment

Educational programs should give anyone willing to strive and learn the chance to improve their economic success—whether by gaining a new trade, building stronger skills, or developing entrepreneurial vision.

The Candidate:
Tim Russ

Tim is an educator, a labor activist, US Army National Guard Veteran and amateur comedian. Tim is a passionate advocate for working families and institutions that serve the people, not the powerful. With deep roots in Grand Rapids and a strong belief in the power of education, Tim is committed to ensuring that GRCC remains accessible, affordable, and responsive to the needs of all learners.

Tim believes people’s voices must be heard in the decisions made by the Board of Trustees and the college. Stakeholders like employees, students, and alumni need to be part of the process of making decisions. Employees deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. The educators are the vital frontline to ensure the college is serving students and the community effectively.

I am dedicated to ensuring that Grand Rapids Community College remains a beacon of opportunity for all. By combining my professional background with a steadfast commitment to transparency and community trust, I am ready to serve as your next Trustee.
